
Sobradinho Dam Irrigation Canal – DINC
Challenge: To deliver in record time of four months a complete system for pumping water from the bed of the Sobradinho Dam transposition canal directly to the Nilo Coelho Irrigation District, which was being impacted by the drought. Delivery time requested on an emergency basis after the start of the work for three months.
Solution: Produce and install a set of 10 motor pumps, 225 auxiliary floats and install the site’s electrical system.
Operation: Project divided into two sites:
São Leopoldo (RS): Engineering* and Production of the motor pumps.
*Engineering used Ansys CFX software, a program used to solve large-scale fluid flow problems.
Petrolina (PE): construction of the floats and manufacture of the electrical components for the power generators and monitoring the production of the pipes and earthworks for the construction of the canal at the dam.
DEADLINES:
Start of work: October 2015
Official delivery deadline: January 26, 2016
Emergency deadline requested: December 28
Completed and inaugurated: December 18
Investment: R$13.4 million + R$12.7 million for the compact soil canal inside the lake.
The DINC comprises 23,000 hectares of irrigable area stretching from the municipality of Casa Nova (north of Bahia) to Petrolina (southwest of Pernambuco), with 20% of the area in the state of Bahia and 80% in Pernambuco.
More than 2,300 farmers benefited, including small users and medium and large companies.
