Sanitation | EEA Americanópolis | SABESP

Operational reliability, energy efficiency, low maintenance and pressure control were some of the advantages of SABESP’s installation of the HIGRA pumping system in Americanópolis.

In 2011, HIGRA installed a pumping system at the pumping station in Americanópolis, on the south side of São Paulo. Located in the upper part of the city, at the time the neighborhood accounted for 1/3 of the number (37,449) of connections in the supply sector, out of a total of 118,900. The previous project had a high loss rate and its obsolescence made pressure control impossible. SABESP, the company responsible for supplying water and collecting and treating sewage in 365 municipalities in the state of São Paulo, acquired three sets of amphibious motor pumps which have been in operation since that date and fully meet the proposed demand. The project led to an increase in the EEA’s operational reliability, with the implementation of a basic reserve group, efficient control of the pumping pressure using frequency inverters and a significant reduction in losses with effective pressure control (35 to 27 mca).

“We’ve been using the HIGRA system in Americanópolis for five years and to date we haven’t had any maintenance problems. HIGRA’s value proposition of generating savings, minimal noise and very low maintenance has really paid off. We have also used HIGRA systems in other locations and have seen the same performance.”

Carlos Marcos Leandro, Mechanical Engineer at the South Electromechanical Division of Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo.

RESULT

– Value of the contract: R$ 5,815,362.00
– Reduction of 50,500 kwh / month in electricity consumption (savings of R$
12,200.00 / month)
– Recovery of pumped volume of 53,177 m³ / month (reduction in losses)
– Reduction in electromechanical and distribution maintenance costs.
– Expected remuneration: R$ 121,153.00 / month
– Electricity: R$ 0.6836 / kwh
– Volume recovery: R$ 1.6291 / m³

OLD SCENARIO

– Total connections in the Americanópolis supply sector:
113,880
– Annualized IPDT (May 2008): 637 l/lig.day
– Total connections in the upper zone: 37,449
– Average expenditure on electricity: R$ 53,590.00 per month (2008)
– Operated at maximum capacity | (03 groups with no base reserve)
– By-pass tower and pressure control by switching pumps on and off
– Obsolete motor pump equipment
– Low performance equipment with high energy consumption
electricity

CURRENT SCENARIO

– Increased operational reliability of the EEA with the implementation
of a base reserve group;
– Efficient control of the pumping pressure using frequency inverters;
– Significant reduction in losses with effective pressure control
(35 to 27mca);
– Implementation of the Herminia Boo (10 mca pressure drop)
– Reduction in electricity consumption with better performance
of the equipment and reduction in the volume pumped.
